🏆How you win
Survive to the end of the storm and be the first player verified at the revealed endpoint — at walking pace, with a real dwell, confirmed by GPS. The verification timestamp is final, and every winning route is reviewed before the crown is confirmed.
What you win is the day itself: each storm has exactly one winner, forever — your name on that storm number, the crown in the recap, the top of the season board. No gift cards, no coupons, no sponsors. The game is the prize.
⛈The storm — and how you're allowed to move
One neighborhood, roughly a 3 km circle, 59 minutes. Walking pace only — at vehicle speed the game locks, and arrivals at speed don't count. The finish is already a walk by design: the storm shrinks slower than you stroll.
You get 100 HP and no healing — get caught outside the safe circle and the storm drains 2 HP a minute early on, up to 30 HP a minute at the door. Six phases, and the circles secretly drift toward a hidden endpoint revealed near the end.
On the roadmap, not at launch: a weekly city-scale storm (transit allowed between phases, always a walk-to-finish ending) and The Signal, a distance-only hunt for bad-weather days. Rules for both will be published here before either runs.
📍Your finish
A finish is logged automatically when you reach the endpoint within the window — walking pace, inside the geofence, with a real dwell. Nothing to scan, nothing to show anyone. One finish per player per storm.
🎁Every finish counts
Didn't take the crown? Every verified finisher extends their finisher streak and lands in the storm recap — streaks become season titles. You have 60 minutes from the moment the storm closes to reach the endpoint and log your finish. When the window shuts, it shuts.
💀Eliminated? Still rewarded.
The storm caught you on the wrong side of the street — it happens. Eliminated players are out of the running for the day, but a finish is still a finish: reach the endpoint inside the same 60-minute window and your streak survives, and your run makes the recap. The storm respects the attempt.
🎂Who can play
Adults only — 18 and up. A GPS game played near real streets and real traffic is an adult activity, and we treat it that way. You'll also need to physically be inside the storm's start zone when you drop in — this is a game about where you actually are.
🆓Free means free
- Free to play, always. No entry fee, no subscription required to compete.
- No purchase necessary — not to enter, not to win, not to claim.
- No paid advantages, ever. Traps and gear are earned by playing. We will never sell anything that helps you win — that's a promise built into the business, not a launch discount.
⚖️Fair play
- Speed-flagged arrivals are void. The same automatic rule for every player — there's no advantage to break the rules for.
- One account per person. Duplicate accounts void every code they hold, and wins earned that way are forfeited.
- GPS spoofing wins nothing — the prize is claimed at a physical counter your fake location isn't standing at.
- Disputes go to in-app support. Finishes, eliminations, and crowns are decided by server records, never argued in person — support sorts everything out against the logs.
🌧Weather cancellations
If the National Weather Service has a severe advisory over the zone — dangerous storms, extreme heat or cold, a proper Chicago blizzard — the challenge postpones automatically and everyone is notified. We can also cancel any live challenge instantly for safety; if that happens, rewards already earned are honored. A real storm always outranks ours.
1. Sponsor
StormRush challenges are operated from Chicago, Illinois (the "Sponsor"). The operating legal entity will be identified here in the final rules.
2. Eligibility
Open to individuals 18 years of age or older who are physically present within the designated challenge start zone at the time of entry. Employees of the Sponsor are not eligible to win. Void where prohibited.
3. Free entry; no purchase necessary
No purchase or payment of any kind is necessary to enter or win. A purchase does not improve any participant's chance of winning. No product or feature affecting competitive outcome is offered for sale.
4. How to enter
Join a scheduled challenge from within its start zone using the StormRush application during the entry period announced for that challenge. One entry per person per challenge.
5. Winner determination
The winner of a challenge is the first participant verified by the system as present at the revealed endpoint, subject to these rules. A finish is valid only if the participant (a) remained un-eliminated at challenge close where the format includes elimination; (b) complied with the movement rules of the format, including the voiding of arrivals at vehicle speed; and (c) holds one account. Location verification requires sustained walking-pace movement and dwell within the designated endpoint zone. The system's recorded verification timestamp is final, subject to route review. This is a skill-based contest; no element of chance determines the winner.
6. Prizes
Challenges award recognition only: the winner's account is recorded as that challenge's winner, and verified finishers accrue streak and season standings. No prizes of monetary value are awarded at launch — no cash, credits, goods, or services. Participation is free. [DRAFT — should prizes of value ever be introduced (e.g., sponsored challenges), sweepstakes/contest rules will be published and reviewed by counsel before the first such challenge.]
7. Conduct and disqualification
The Sponsor may void the entry of any participant who falsifies location data, operates multiple accounts, arrives at vehicle speed, endangers any person, trespasses, violates traffic laws, or otherwise breaches these rules or the Terms of Service. Safety violations result in disqualification regardless of finishing position.
8. Cancellation and postponement
Challenges postpone automatically under qualifying National Weather Service severe advisories and may be cancelled at any time for safety. Where a challenge is cancelled mid-play, rewards already earned as of cancellation are honored or substituted at equivalent value.
9. Disputes
Disputes regarding finishes, timestamps, eliminations, or flags must be submitted through in-app support within forty-eight (48) hours of the challenge and are resolved against server records.
10. Privacy
Location data is collected only during live challenges and handled per the Privacy Policy, including deletion of match location traces after thirty (30) days.
11. General
These rules will be governed by the laws of the State of Illinois. Additional terms in the Terms of Service apply. [DRAFT — additional provisions, entity identification, and state-law compliance review pending attorney sign-off.]
